Whether you’re comfortably coupled up or happily single you’ll probably be aware that February 14 is Valentine’s Day. And just in time for this celebration of love, romance, and relationships, Facebook has added some new features to Messenger.
According to Facebook, Valentine’s Day is one of the busiest days on Messenger. Probably due to people sending, “Sorry I forgot to buy a card… please forgive me Xxx”. So Facebook wants to help bring people together on this
Hallmark holiday special day.
Triggered on Valentine’s Day
All you need to do to trigger Messenger’s new Valentine’s Day feature is indicate you’re in a relationship with someone on Facebook. Even if it’s not a new relationship, updating your status in some way — to “Married” or “Engaged” for example — will do the trick.
You’ll then get a Messenger notification that will open up a conversation between you and your other half. You’ll then be showered in hearts, have a new default emoji, and be prompted to “set your own custom text color, emoji, and nickname.”

This may all seem a little unnecessary, but triggering this feature also means “your loved one will be the first person to appear on the Active tab, so you can easily see when they’re available to chat.” Which is the only actually useful part of any of this.
While Facebook has rolled these features out in time for Valentine’s Day they should work long after the red roses have wilted and died. So there’s really no excuse for not making your relationship official on Facebook if you haven’t already done so.
Make It Facebook Official
Valentine’s Day isn’t for everyone. In fact, for all the single ladies out there, it can be a tough time of year. For those people, we recommend watching these anti-romantic films on Netflix. For everyone else, why not celebrate your love by making it Facebook official.
Is Messenger the messaging app of choice for you and your loved one? If so, will you be making use of these new features on Messenger? Or do you have something bigger and better planned for Valentine’s Day? Please let us know in the comments below!
