Liverpool warned Roma’s Alisson will cost over £45million – but told “Messi of goalkeepers” will be worth it

Liverpool have been warned that Roma goalkeeper Alisson will cost in excess of £45million – but told to pay no matter the cost.

The Brazilian international is currently keeping Manchester City stopper Ederson out of the Selecao lineup and has been watched by the Reds and is being heavily-linked with a summer move to Anfield.

The 25-year-old has impressed at the Stadio Olimpico over the last 18 months and Jurgen Klopp is eyeing a new goalkeeper, having grown frustrated with Simon Mignolet; the Belgian is now playing second fiddle to Loris Karius.

Roma sporting director Monchi last week declared that no offers were forthcoming for Alisson in the January transfer window.

“Did any offers come in for Alisson? No,” declared the Giallorossi chief.

Alisson is expected to be in heavy demand this summer, with a number of Europe’s elite potentially moving for a new man between the sticks.

Real Madrid, Liverpool and Paris Saint-Germain are all on the lookout for a new goalkeeper, while Juventus could also move if Gianluigi Buffon calls time on his career.

Former Roma goalkeeping coach Roberto Negrisolo – who played a role in the Brazilian’s switch from Internacional in his homeland – says a player he believes is the “Messi of goalkeepers” is going to prove costly, but brings with him a 10-year guarantee.

“Is Alisson worth €50million (£45m)? Don’t be silly, he’s worth far more than that,” Negrisolo told Il Romanista.

“I don’t think many people have realised who Alisson is. This guy is a phenomenon. He is the number one of number ones. He is the Messi of goalkeepers, because he has the same mentality as Messi. He is a goalkeeper who can mark an era.

“There is absolutely no comparison with Gianluigi Donnarumma, because Alisson is extraordinary.

“The way he behaves in the goal, he reminds me of Dino Zoff. I’d also compare him to Michel Preud-Homme, who had the class of someone born to be a goalkeeper.

“I told Alisson when I met him at Roma’s Trigoria ground that he was born for this. He was already strong when he arrived, but has improved even more since he has been in Italy, especially when coming out low to get the ball. Now he is far more decisive in those situations.

“I know goalkeepers, that is my business, and I can assure you Alisson can be a guarantee for at least another 10 years. He’s already a hero to the fans and Roma need to keep hold of him.

“Alisson is crucial off the field too, as you can see he has the mind of a coach. Look at the way he moves and acts when the ball is in his hands and you’ll understand.”
